The Great Escape (1963)
This war film is technically not a biker film, however, it features one of the most famous jumps in motorcycle cinema history and is a great action movie. The film tells the story of several World War II allied prisoners, including, played by Steve McQueen.The scene in which Hiltz jumps over the fence on his motorcycle was filmed in the meadows near Füssen in Bavaria (on the Austrian border) and in the Alps. The stunts on the motorcycle were performed by McQueen himself, except for one: a motorcycle jump over a fence more than two meters high was performed by McQueen’s friend Bud Ekins. The scene with the chase on the 1961 Triumph TR6 Trophy Bird became a part of the movie history.
The Wild One (1953)
This classic film with legendary actor Marlon Brando as biker Johnny Strabler, the leader of the motorcycle club, definitely makes our list. The main character rides the 1950 Triumph Thunderbird 6T and leads the bike gang. The young biker in the leather jacket seems to be in trouble until he falls in love with a nice girl whose father is a cop. Unfortunately for Johnny, his only attempt at redemption is interrupted by his enemy, the unstable Chino, plus the townspeople are hostile because of prejudice. It was one of the first films that brought motorcycling to the mainstream and made Marlon Brando the new cult icon and screen hero.
TT3D: Closer to the Edge (2011)
Isle Of Man TT is one of the most dangerous and vulnerable racing competitions in the world, and this British documentary narrated by Jared Leto is a pure-adrenaline racing story about it.
This documentary tells and shows why, even today, TT drivers risk their lives every time they enter another stage of this competition. The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is one of the greatest events to challenge bikes and their riders.
It has always transcended other, ordinary races and many of those involved have had to sacrifice their lives in the pursuit of victory. This is a story about freedom of choice, the power of the human spirit, and the will to win.
Sons of Anarchy (2008-2014)
The small town of Charming and the motorcycle club.. so is the setting. This action drama series tells about a motorcycle club Sons of Anarchy, also known as the Reaper Club from the small town of Charming, and the plot revolves around the son of the founder, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam). The motorcycle club makes its money smuggling guns and drugs while fighting off police, feds, and rival gangs and solving internal problems: the current club president once killed the previous one, took his chair, and got his wife. The series has a lot of fans from all over the world and if you watch it you may become one of them.
The World’s Fastest Indian (2005)
This biographical sports drama tells the story of the racer Burt Munroe, the legendary New Zealander who set many speed records for motorcycles and engines. He spent many years improving and modifying his 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle.
On this machine, Burt was able to realize his cherished dream. Burt managed to set several world speed records at one of the next races held in the Bonneville Flats salt desert.
The elderly motorcycle racer was moving steadily toward his dream, he was solving money problems, technical and organizational. Burt’s health leaves much to be desired, and no one believes he will win.
